Tampa, FL, July 4, 2006:
Katie Collins, the 9 year old daughter of former Tampa Tribune photo stringer, John Collins, begins production on her first short movie. The movie, Unexpected News
, is the story of the friendship of two young girls whose relationship is torn apart when one has to move to Chicago with her family. Miss Collins wrote the script and created the storyboards over a two week period herself.
Production will begin at 9AM and wraps by 3PM each day. The production schedule calls for interior shots on Wednesday and exterior shots on Thursday and Friday. While the set is closed to the public, it will be open to members of the media.
She hopes that the movie will be accepted for screening in the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival this October in the Young Filmmakers category.
She financed the movie by seeking and receiving sponsorship from several local businesses including Publix and Chick-fil-A.
The cast is made up of local Tampa talent including many elementary aged children. The production crew is made up mainly of children aged 6-16. The camera and lighting equipment was donated by Kenny Strawn with Sunstream Video. The audio equipment is courtesy of John Collins and Extreme Meetings!
